Secunda resident sets his sights on cycling to Cape Town

Isaac Tau is preparing for an ambitious bicycle journey from Secunda to Cape Town on November 2, while inviting 12 cyclists to join him on the road.

What started with a need for a bicycle has developed into an ambitious cycling journey from Secunda to Cape Town.

Isaac Tau plans to set off on November 2, cycling from Secunda as part of an initiative aimed at putting ideas to the test through real-world experiences. The idea was sparked by a practical challenge when Tau needed a bicycle for the journey.

This prompted him to consider how many bicycles in Secunda stand unused, while there are people who could benefit from having access to them.

From this came the concept of Split Second Secunda, a peer-to-peer marketplace designed to make unused or idle bicycles accessible to people who need them, while potentially allowing owners to generate income from assets that would otherwise remain unused.

Tau now plans to take the concept from an idea to a real-life experience by cycling from Secunda to Cape Town. He is inviting 12 cyclists to join him on the journey.

The 12-person cycling journey forms part of the real-world testing and documentation of these ideas, rather than being simply a cycling challenge.

The cycling challenge is also linked to the development of Tau’s Civilized University project, a developing education and innovation project built around the idea that education should teach people to participate in reality, using families, entrepreneurship, technology and real-world experiments as learning environments.

For Tau, the journey is a chance to take an idea beyond discussion and test it in the real world. The route will start in Secunda and finish in Cape Town, with the cyclists scheduled to leave on November 2.

Tau is still looking for 12 cyclists who are interested in taking part in the journey. Those interested can contact Tau on 081 377 3338.
