eMZINONI – Calm has been restored in eMzinoni following the unrest related to gangs.

Police led by Brig Sifiso Cele, Custer commander, met with various stakeholders and community members in attempts to resolve the matter.

Residents told Brig Cele they decided to take the law into their iwn hands because they have lost confidence in the police.

They accused the police of various misconducts and brutality.

Brig Cele urged them to calm down and give them a chance to do the right thing.

He said those who have grievances against the police, can report to IPID.

About 35 people were arrested for public violence and nine alleged gang members were arrested.

Police said they are investigating an alleged shooting of a 14-year-old girl.

She was allegedly shot during the unrest on Thursday, 15 August.

On that day, angry residents wanted to torch the police station.

However the police managed to disperse them.

Roads were barricaded with stones and burning tyres.

The residents were all over the place searching for the gang members.

Brig Cele urged residents to stop taking the law into their own hands.
