Women of EFF Mpumalanga hand over memorandum to Ermelo Station Commander

The women from the EFF in Mpumalanga handed over a memorandum to the Station Commander of Ermelo Police Station on 23 August.

They took a decision to confront the growing number of unresolved cases of mostly domestic abuse.

Ms Mbali Dlamini, spokesman, said, “We submitted a memorandum listing 14 demands for the establishment of an accountability committee to work with the police.”

Their demands included:

  • Cases should not take more than a year.
  • Protection of survivors and weekly checkups to see if they are still safe from any form of intimidation.
  • Cases of sex workers should not be dehumanised and they should have the right to report cases without being labeled.
  • Police officers who are acquainted with any accused should declare a conflict of interest and excuse themselves from such cases.
