Lekwa holds back answer for unemployed youth

They will form part of the National Rural Youth Services Corps.

Mr Muso Kubheka, DA-councillor in Morgenzon, contacted the Standerton Advertiser last week about a delay in a commitment from the Lekwa Municipality about a programme to reduce unemployment.

The newspaper is in possession of a letter written to Ms Gugu Mhlongo-Ntshangase, municipal manager, outlining the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform’s endeavour to train traffic officers.

They will form part of the National Rural Youth Services Corps.

Youth between the ages of 18 and 25, with a Grade 12 certificate, driver’s licence, medical certificate to prove physical fitness and no criminal record, will be eligible to undergo training and the department asked for a commitment from the municipality to use them in Lekwa.

The Standerton Advertiser sent an e-mail to Ms Thobeka Mtshiselwa, communications manager of the municipality, on Monday 26 August for comment and is awaiting a response.
