Golf day draws strong field at Walker Park in Evander

A field of 56 golfers took to the fairways of Walker Park Golf Club on August 8 for the Dillegent Students’ Golf Day.

Golfers enjoyed a competitive day on the fairways when the Dillegent Students’ Golf Day was held at Walker Park Golf Club on August 8.

A total of 56 players took part in the event, with teams battling it out for top honours across the course.

The winning team was Herman Botha, Ethan Bunke, Ricus Smith and Jacques van der Merwe, who finished on an impressive 96 points.

Just one point behind in second place were Jakkals Jordaan, Chané Jordaan, Duimpie Crouse and Anke Arlow on 95 points.

Third place went to Barnie Groenewald, Rika Groenewald, Jaco van der Merwe and Martin Steyn, who completed their round with 93 points.

The nearest-to-pin prizes were keenly contested. Jaco van der Merwe claimed the prize on hole two, Jandré Venter was closest on hole eight, Francois Jordaan won the prize on hole 13, and Jacques Erasmus was nearest the pin on hole 15.

In the longest-drive competitions, Anke Arlow won the women’s longest drive on hole nine, while Lienkie Oosthuizen took the honours on hole 17.

For the men, Ricus Smith produced the longest drive on hole nine, with Martin Steyn claiming the hole 17 longest-drive prize.
