VIDEO – Still no work done on substation after months of complaints
“Why could they not have repaired the broken doors, and maybe even the sagging fence, when they came to lock the gate. It would not have cost an arm and a leg. Neither would it have taken up too much time. This is a simple matter of a little maintenance can go a long way.”
SECUNDA – An electrical substation in Secunda is open to all elements of the weather.
This power source in Vaalrivier Street that supplies electricity to the entire Ward 30, has apparently been left in this condition for months.
According to the Ward councillor, Mr Tim Denny from the DA, although the substation is fenced in with palisades, street sleepers and drug addicts used to access the space to either sleep there or to stash their drugs.
The access gate at that time was left unlocked.
“After months of complaining, a worker from Govan Mbeki Municipality eventually placed a chain and padlock on the gate, but the vandalised doors of the box were not fixed.
“The inside of the transformer is completely unprotected. I am concerned with the rainy season ahead, that the substation will blow out,” explained Mr Denny.
