[GRAPHIC CONTENT] Pig farmers need help to combat African Swine Flu

eMBALENHLE – Pig farmers are losing about 10 pigs daily due to the African Swine Flu outbreak in the area.

According to the farmers, they have been experiencing the outbreaks of African Swine Flu since earlier this year.

Mr Sipho Hlophe lost about 150 pigs since April.

He contacted the Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development last month and they visited the farm and confirmed that it is indeed African Swine Flu.

He said they advised him that the pigs should be slaughtered.

He said some farmers no longer bury the corpses instead, throwing them in the nearby stream.

He said they are desperate for help to deal with the situation.
