FOLLOW UP- Dawie Roodt comments on the impact of truck protests on South African economy

Mr Roodt said: "I have spoken to business owners who have not been attacked and they are withdrawing their businesses."

The Highvelder published an article on the Highvelder website titled, “Trucks set on fire between Carolina and Belfast”, after three trucks were torched 15km on the Carolina road on 1 September.

Mr Dawie Roodt, chief economist from Efficient, said nothing separates truck protests from xenophobic attacks.

“The direct impact of import and export both within and outside of South Africa due to trucks not being able to transport goods to certain locations, is not that severe.”

It is a ripple effect that will hugely impact various individual businesses.

Mr Roodt said: “I have spoken to business owners who have not been attacked and they are withdrawing their businesses.”
