WATCH: Secondary school learners march against crime

Learners marched against gender-based Violence

eMBALENHLE – Learners from Kiriyatswane Secondary School recently stood united against gender-based violence under #notinmyname.

The learners held an awareness campaign at the school following several alarming reports of gender-based violence in the country.

They sang, danced and delivered poetry.

The learners feel unsafe and they do not know who to trust anymore, because most of the perpetrators are people close to them and people in public offices.

The march was aimed at raising awareness and also to sympathise with the victims.

Mr Mbongeni Maziya, President of the Learners Representative Council, said it was important for the school to have this march and to include male learners in solidarity with the female learners.

He condemned the violence against women and children and called on government to give support to the victims and to implement harsh punishment on the perpetrators.

“We want to tell our sisters that they are not alone, we might not fully understand what they going through but we sympathise with them.

“These are our mothers and sisters, we are calling on the perpetrators to stop what they are doing.”
