Lerato Nkosi scoops third place in Albert Luthuli Oral History District Competition

The 15-year-old said she wants to be a radio host after matric, and she aims to serve as a beacon of hope to her peers.

Lerato Nkosi, a grade 10 learner from Lake Chrissie Secondary School has scooped a third place in the iINkosi Albert Luthuli Oral History District Competition.

The competition saw high school learners from grade 8 to grade 11 conducting an oral history research project.

It formed part of the department’s contribution to support history as a subject of choice in schools and aims to develop research skills in learners to improve their subject knowledge.

Lerato Nkosi said: “I am very proud of myself, stakes were high when we proceeded to the Provincial level at Badplaas, but with pure determination and hard work I managed to scoop a third place.”

The 15-year-old said she wants to be a radio host after matric, and she aims to serve as a beacon of hope to her peers.

“I would love radio presenting, because I am very talkative, I want to rise from my background, because my mom is unemployed and poverty is rife in our area.”
