TRICHARDT – A fight about hunting dogs might be the reason that a 34-year-old man was gunned down in the Syferfontein Farm settlement along the Vlaklaagte road outside Trichardt on Saturday night, 21 September.
Mr Thabanae Ncele (34) allegedly told his brother earlier that night that a well-known man in the area wanted to kill him, because of a dispute over hunting dogs.
Mr Ncele was on his way home from a shebeen just before midnight when he was shot seven times.
His brother heard the gunshots and ran outside where he found his bleeding brother in the road.
The emergency services were called. ER24 rushed him to the Evander Hospital, where he later died.

According to Sgt Valencia Koma, spokesman for the Trichardt Police Station, they found seven cartridges and four projectiles on the scene.
A case of murder was opened.
The community, however, took matters into their own hands the next day.
They went to the house of a man they suspected is the mastermind behind the hit on Mr Ncele at about 11am.
When they did not find the man at home, they allegedly set the house on fire.
The police arrived on the scene to find the house destroyed.
They are now also investigating a case of arson.
Sgt Koma said no arrests have yet been made in both cases.
“We ask that anyone with information that can help to solve the case, contact Detective Const Mathipa Rachecky at 082 465 2364.
