Secunda woman wants to help abused women and children

Support project for good cause

SECUNDA – A woman who walked the road of abuse, has a dream to open a place of safety for women and children who are victims of abuse and have nowhere else to go.

She also wants to begin a non-profitable organisation and create awareness of violence and help victims of abuse.

“I noticed a place of safety for vulnerable women and children is a great need in Secunda and the surrounding area,” the woman, who wants to remain anonymous, said.

“Women battle to get free from the bad cycle caused by abusive relationships, because they have nowhere else to go.”

November is Gender-based Violence Awareness Month and the colour purple is being used to create awareness of gender-based violence.

The woman needs people in professional careers such as the medicine field and hospitals to be part of the organisation and serve on her board.

Capt Lizzie Koekemoer, commander of the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offence Unit (FCS), said there is a need for such an organisation and a place of safety for abused women and children.
