eMBALENHLE – Concerned residents have raised their concerns over the homeless people sleeping at the Sijongile Damase Hall.

These homeless people are alleged drug addicts who have turned the veranda of the hall into their bedrooms.

They have moved in with their mattresses, blankets and clothes.

Residents claim the group threatens the safety of the people who often go to the hall, especially the elderly who attend the clinic in the same yard.

They said they security guards have also raised concerns over this.

“We contacted the municipal by-law enforcers, but without luck.

“They did not pitch up and we do not know what to do anymore.

“We are calling on anyone who can assist to intervene. We must not wait until this becomes out of hand.”

The residents did apparently ask the homeless to leave, however the squatters were very violent and threatened to assault them.

Police were not available for comment at the time of going to the press.
