Two suffer hypothermia when car tumbles off bridge into river near Bethal

Due to strong currents, Delta 1 Rescue Diving was dispatched.

BETHAL – ER24 ambulance services this morning rushed to hospital two men whose car tumbled off a bridge into a river early morning.

The emergency services were called out at about 5.20am to the scene at the Olifant bridge about 25km from Bethal on the R35 towards Middelburg where a vehicle was spotted submerged in the river.

Due to strong currents, Delta 1 Rescue Diving was dispatched.

However, the call was canceled when the driver of the car and his passenger arrived on the scene.

They claimed the accident happened at about 2am and they luckily made it to safety.

The two men suffered from hypothermia and were taken to hospital in Middelburg.
