Eskom’s loadshedding to continue till Saturday morning

Stage 2 loadshedding’s schedule for Standerton was from 7am to 9.30am and again from 3pm to 5.30pm.

The power utility terminated Stage 2 loadshedding at 5am today after having to loadshed from 4pm on Thursday evening.

As the generating plant continues to perform at low levels of reliability, their technical teams were unable to return units from planned or unplanned maintenance as scheduled.

With units not returning, they were unable to replenish water reserves overnight for their pumped storage schemes.

Stage 2 loadshedding will be implemented from 9am until 6am tomorrow morning.

Eskom’s Emergency Response Command Centre (ERCC) continues to monitor the system, while their technical teams continue to work around the clock to return additional units to the grid.

With the incessant rain, they are beginning to experience coal handling problems at a number of their power stations because of wet coal.

While not expected or planned, further deterioration of plant performance or emergence of other risks may necessitate invoking further stages of load-shedding.

As rainy and cold weather conditions in some parts of the country are experienced, Eskom requested consumers to use efficient heating to keep warm and switch off geysers over peak periods.

They also requested that computers, copiers, printers and fax machines at the switch. at the end of the day and to avoid stand-by or sleep mode.

Eskom customers can check their loadshedding schedules on their website (loadshedding.eskom.co.za) or through the customer contact centre at 086 003 7566.

Eskom sincerely apologises to our customers and South Africans for the inconvenience.
