Stage 2 load shedding continues until tomorrow night, 9 December

Eskom will continue with load shedding tonight.

According to a press release, residents will experience Stage 2 rotational load shedding tomorrow until 11pm.

The risk of load shedding for the rest of the week remains high.

This comes as a result of a shortage of capacity.

This morning, Eskom said that Stage 2 load shedding will be implemented until 11pm tonight, however due to the vulnerability and low level of reliability of the system Eskom lost additional units during the course of the day, resulting in unplanned breakdowns increasing to 12 000MW as at 7pm.

The additional loss of units today, required an increase in the usage of diesel and water at our open cycle gas turbines and pumped storage schemes respectively, in order to supplement capacity.

As a result, Eskom have been unable to conserve water and diesel as required to stop or to minimise load shedding for the coming week.

Eskom reminded customers that load shedding is a responsible act to prevent a national blackout.

Load shedding is required overnight and all day tomorrow to cater for further trips and to create capacity to replenish water reserves for our pumped storage schemes.

Sufficient water and diesel reserves are necessary to limit the level of load shedding in the week.

Eskom asked customers to reduce demand as a concerted collective effort that can help to avoid or lessen the level of load shedding.
