Police in the Secunda Cluster scoop awards
The event was aimed at boosting the morale of the police members
SECUNDA – Police in the Secunda Cluster performed well at the Provincial Commissioner’s Prestige Awards held at Graceland Hotel, Casino and Country Club on Friday, 6 December.
Sgt Gugu Zulu scooped the Employee of the Year award in the Criminal Record and Crime Scene Management category.
Const Cynthia Mtshweni won the award for Visible Policing Employee of the Year, Lieut-Col Nancy Ntuli and her team from the Secunda K9-unit won the Visible Policing Team of the Year award, and Capt Simon Mlotshwa and his team clinched the accolade for the Detective Team of the Year.
R/Const JM Mtsweni scooped the Reservist of the Year award, W/O Louwrens van Schaik won the Sportsman of the Year award and Const Thomas Mogadime won the Man of the Year award.
The event was attended by MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Ms Gabisile Shabalala, the House of Traditional Leaders led by Inkhosi SG Ngomane, the District Mayor of Gert Sibande Municipality, Mr Muzi G Chirwa, senior management of the police’s head office accompanied by some provincial commissioners, senior officials from various government departments, Community Police Forum representatives, the sponsors, and other stakeholders in the fight against crime.
Ms Shabalala thanked Lieut-Genl Mondli Zuma, provincial commissioner, for his leadership as he sets a standard in everything that he does.
She presented him with a gift as a token of appreciation and souvenir to keep doing what he always does when it comes to policing matters in the province.
The event forms part of the police’s plan to boost the morale of members so that they continuously serve the public in spite of the agonising reality of even paying the ultimate price.
Amongst the winners, was a category for the best Communication Officer of the Year, which was awarded to Brig Leonard Hlathi.
