Sanral promises toll plaza’s and the potholes on the N17 will be fixed soon
Motorists also said the N17 has many potholes and since they are paying to use the road, the money should be used to fix the potholes.
HIGHVELD – Residents travelling between Bethal and Trichardt complained about the N17 toll plaza during past few weeks.
According to residents the green or red lights indicating which booths are open did not work and they had to stand in the queue for much longer than usual before they could go through the gates.
Motorists also said the N17 has many potholes and since they are paying to use the road, the money should be used to fix the potholes.
Mr Vusi Mona, spokesman of Sanral said the potholes on the N17 were recently repaired.
“However, Sanral is aware that some sections of the N17 have problematic road surfacing conditions,” said Mr Mona.
“These are being addressed in the short term by routine road management (pothole repairs) and in the medium term through the Sanral road maintenance strategy.”

According to Mr Mona, the long queues motorists recently had to face was because of load shedding impacting the electrical systems at the toll gate and unfortunately caused fusing which required rebooting of various back-up systems.
“At all toll plazas, backup systems supply electricity in the event of interruptions.
” The back-up systems, which include UPS power generators, were also impacted by the frequency of power interruptions.
“Steps were taken to restore the system as quickly as possible. Sanral apologises for the inconvenience to road users.”
The green and red lights not working forms part of the toll system and these signs were also impacted by load shedding.
Mr Mona said Sanral is implementing the required repairs in terms of the high mast lights in the plaza area that is not working.
“Currently, repairs are almost complete at the Leandra toll plaza and repairs to the Trichardt toll plaza will be conducted next.”
