SECUNDA – Locals joined forces last week to search and rescue a seriously injured, badly neglected and terrified pitbull in Secunda.
The obviously dumped animal was sighted on Thursday morning, 16 January, where he was crawled up on a pillow in the veld between Laerskool Goedehoop and the NG Goedehoop Church. A tight rope was cutting into the flesh around his neck.
The woman who spotted the dog, immediately notified the Facebook group, Secunda Verlore Diere which is run by the animal welfare organisation Because Dogs & Co.
The animal had apparently been spotted before, but being extremely scared, evaded capture.
A search party comprising residents and members of various animal welfare organisations was formed to search the green strips in town.
The founders of the WhatsApp group for Secunda’s lost animals, even used night vision goggles to search for the dog at night.
He was eventually seen closer to the Secunda Mall and caught on 21 January when he ran into a garden.

The animal’s foster mother has since dubbed him Charlie. She described him as lovable and kind.
