Mr Siboniso Nkosi (38), taxi owner, appeared in the Bethal Magistrate’s Court in connection with the murder of a resident who was shot during a dispute between residents and taxi owners on Tuesday 4 January.
The case was postponed to 12 February.
He remains in custody.
[7pm – 5 February] One dead following clash between eMzinoni residents and Bethal Taxi Association
eMZINONI – One of the residents who was shot yesterday during the dispute between residents and the taxi association, has died.
He died at Ermelo Hospital and the other two are still fighting for their lives.
The man who allegedly shot him is now facing a murder charge and will appear at the Bethal Magistrate’s Court tomorrow, 6 February.
[8am – 5 February] UPDATE: Man n custody for allegedly shooting a protester
eMZINONI – Police have arrested a suspect following the shooting during the dispute between residents and the local taxi association yesterday, 4 January.
The suspect is facing an attempted murder case and is expected to appear in court soon.
Police said the situation is calm at this stage.
[11am – 4 February] UPDATE: Three shot during clash between eMzinoni community and Bethal Taxi Association.
According to Const Cynthia Mtsweni, police spokesman, three community members have been shot and were taken to the Bethal Hospital.
Police said at this stage it is unclear who shot them. The police are investigating these incidents.

[9am – 4 February] WATCH: Conflict ensues between taxi association and community
Residents of eMzinoni came together at the police station this morning to express their frustrations with the Bethal Taxi Association.
According to police, about a hundred people are now demanding the chairman of the taxi association to come and address them.
The taxis are allegedly preventing the buses of Mega Bus to operate and buses are now parked outside the police station.
The Secunda Public Order Police (Pops) and Bethal Police are monitoring the situation.
