Beware, dog poisoning is rife in Secunda

He advised dog owners to scout out their gardens before letting the dogs out in the mornings, and to keep their pets safe.

SECUNDA – Within one night, several dogs at homes in Albach Street, Secunda, were poisoned.

The culprits targeted this neighbourhood last night, 6 March.

The poisoning incidents were reported this morning when the dog owners found their pets either dead or barely alive.

According to the police, five of the dogs poisoned in this street, died.

One neighbour reported seeing a man at about 9.30pm throwing things into yards.

The driver of a small blue car eventually picked up the suspect.

This morning, 7 March, a voice note was circulated in which a resident of Herbert Baker Street in Ext 22 also warns his neighbours of people in a blue car tossing poisoned meat into yards.

Capt Gerhard Elmes, spokesman for Secunda Police, confirmed the incidents and said a warning is being circulated to residents to be on the lookout for these suspects.

He advised dog owners to scout out their gardens before letting the dogs out in the mornings, and to keep their pets safe.

He also reminded residents to lock their gates and cars at night, especially older model cars as these are popular among car thieves.

People whose dogs are poisoned must report it to the police.
