Convicted murderer gets extra 8 years for breaking into house a week prior to killing farmer

The court also heard that Molefe is currently serving a life sentence imposed by the Delmas High Court in May last year for the murder of Mr Hans Meyer (70).

EVANDER – A convicted farm attacker and killer was sentenced to another eight years’ imprisonment on Wednesday 18 March for breaking into Mr Hans Meyer’s house a week prior to killing him in 2018.

Tshepo Joseph Molefe pleaded guilty in the Evander Regional Court last week on charges of breaking into the Meyers’ house on the farm Vögelvlei on 7 February 2018. Molefe admitted in court to stealing a laptop and television.

He told Magistrate Victor Ball that he was remorseful for his actions.

The court also heard that Molefe is currently serving a life sentence imposed by the Delmas High Court in May last year for the murder of Mr Hans Meyer (70).

Mr Meyer was shot dead in his house on the farm in the Charl Cilliers district on 16 February 2018.

Molefe and his gang attacked Mr Meyer and his wife Ilse (69), robbed them and then made Mr Meyer sit down on the couch before shooting him twice in the chest.

Ms Meyer was manhandled.

The robbers fled in Mr Meyer’s bakkie and later abandoned it near Bethal, but were quickly apprehended.

According to Mr Meyer’s family, Molefe could not get the safe open during the burglary and therefore returned to the farmstead the following week.
