eMBALENHLE – Another taxi driver belonging to Vukanini Taxi Association (Vukta) who was shot during the clash between police and taxi drivers in February, died.

He succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday, 8 April in the hospital in eMalahleni.

This brings the total number of four taxi drivers who died from that incident.

The violence erupted after Vukta’s dispute with Megabus about routes in the area.

The association embarked on a protest and the police intervened.

A police officer was wounded and three taxi drivers died during a shootout that day.

Mr AD Mahlangu, secretary for Vukta, said the association is saddened by the death of the driver.

“We hoped that he would have recovered.

“We send our deepest condolence to his family and friends.

“We hope justice will be served.”

The case is being investigated by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID).
