With as little as R200 you can feed a family of four in Ermelo for 14 days

Hunger, if not addressed, could lead to desperation, which in turn might see an increase in crime relating to widespread looting and stealing.

With the majority of the population forced to remain at home during the lockdown period, several are unable to earn a living.

Hunger and desperation have become the norm and the stark reality is that a lot of South Africans have no food on their tables.

In order to address the challenge, The Ermelo Muslim Welfare began handing out grocery hampers to individuals in need.

Over a thousand hampers at a cost of R140 000 were distributed.

Requests for assistance have poured in from the community and according to The Ermelo Muslim Welfare, they believe they have not even touched the tip of the iceberg yet.

“ln order to avert a humanitarian crisis, we would require a substantially larger contribution and effort.”

“The magnitude of the crisis requires a joint initiative by all stakeholders of our town.”

They have therefore established an aid organisation called The Giving Hands that will serve as an umbrella body that incorporates all businesses and organisations of Ermelo.

Contributions from businesses or organisation are imperative in the success of this operation.

People can help by partnering with The Giving Hands.

To date, they have established a partnership with:
