Covid-19: Animals need our help too – Support #needtofeed #fooddrive

The #needtofeed #fooddrive has been created to assist pet owners who are in need of food for their furry pets.

SECUNDA – Many families and households are facing financial strains in the current times we are facing due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

For some the reality is no work no pay, and in other cases no work at all, thus seeking means and ways to cut expenses just to get through each month.

Many people are in such a financial strain that they are making use of food parcels in order to have food on the table. In some cases relocation may seem to be the only resort for some families.

Because Dogs and Co together with Roman Alarms and Delta 1 Rescue Diving have seen the financial burden many are facing and with that comes a huge concern, as pet owners are unable to take care of their beloved pets.

The #needtofeed #fooddrive project has been created to assist pet owners who are in need of food for their furry friends.

Through the generosity of the public and businesses, 49 families, which have an average of between two to five pets (cats and dogs), have benefited from food parcels.

The dogs received a 4kg bag and the cats a 2kg bag. These numbers are growing every day.

“As long as we have food we will continue with this drive,” said Ms Chantél Vorster of Because Dogs and Co.

In order to continue with this drive, more food will be needed and thus an appeal is going out to locals and businesses to help support this initiative.

“We challenge 10 businesses to donate 100kg cat or dog food each and in return we will publish your logo on our Facebook cover video for a month,” said Chantél.

Businesses can in return challenge their oppositions, colleagues, family and friends.

When speaking to the Ridge Times, Ms Vorster said other concerns include that of families having to re-home their beloved pets due to relocation and financial strain.

In one of these cases, a family had to put their beloved pets up for adoption, because the province they were relocating to and the family members with whom they were going to live, are unable to accommodate these pets.

“There has definitely been a spike where owners are putting their animals up for adoption because they are unable to take care of them during this difficult time,” ended Ms Vorster.

To donate dog or cat food or a cash donation or as a business accept the challenge, contact Ms Vorster via WhatsApp message only at 081 013 4952.
