Bethal SPCA saves dog

Animal welfare organisation reaches out to informal settlement's animals

BETHAL – The staff of Bethal SPCA recently came across a pregnant cross-bred miniature Dobermann pinscher while on an outreach in eMzinoni.

The tiny dog was apparently impregnated by a pit bull terrier and went into early labour.

“We took her to a vet who preformed a C-section. She had two puppies, but they were both dead,” said Ms Laurna Coetzer, inspector at Bethal SPCA.

“The puppies were just too big for the miniature pinscher’s small body.

“She could have died as well, we found her just in time.”

Ms Coetzer stressed the importance of sterilising pets.

Bethal SPCA often does outreach projects to less fortunate communities and often take blankets and dog food to these areas.

They are currently planning on implementing running chains for the dogs in these areas. If you want to support Bethal SPCA, contact them at 072 573 3122.
