Protest action erupts in townships; municipal employee in hospital
A senior employee of Govan Mbeki Municipality is also in hospital after he was allegedly shocked by electricity at a substation in eMbalenhle. This came after he was held ransom by angry locals who wanted electricity immediately.

8.30pm: HIGHVELD – Unrest has flared up in the townships of eMbalenhle and eMzinoni within the Govan Mbeki Municipality tonight, 18 June.
In eMbalenhle, police are calling on motorists to drive with caution in the area as most areas are being blocked by stones and burning tyres.
Angry residents are protesting over power interruptions in the area.
Some areas have been without electricity for over six hours.
Police are monitoring the situation.

In eMzinoni, residents have taken to the streets to raise their anger towards Govan Mbeki Municipality and the town’s continuous lack of electricity supply.
Motorists are advised to steer clear from the R38. Caution is also advised for all roads around town.
