AfriForum fills up potholes in Bethal
Patchwork and filling up of the holes would not have been possible without the financial assistance from the community and business association.
BETHAL – AfriForum are back up and running after lockdown restriction had halted the works on repairs done to roads in Bethal.
Mr Hennie Bekker, District Coordinator, Lowveld District AfriForum, said that they are hoping to fill another 300 potholes.
Before lockdown, AfriForum ordered 300 bags of a new product of latex tar which is said to be just as effective as the normal cold premix.
Three bags have already been received and have been tried and tested in some areas.
Patchwork and filling up of the holes would not have been possible without the financial assistance from the community and business association.

“We had to make a decision on which roads need to be maintained and patched up as soon as possible, unfortunately not all the roads can be repaired,” said Mr Bekker.
He said keeping roads maintained is a huge problem because of heavy duty trucks that continuously go through town and residential areas.
“We can’t maintain all the roads, it is impossible.
“Funding is also a problem.”
He went on to explain that most of the roads are old and need to be resurfaced.
“We try to patch as many holes as possible, but there is just no way that some can again be repaired, because the roads are in poor condition.
Besides the fixing and patching up of potholes, AfriForum has also served the community by keeping verges clean and cut.
They have also taken on projects by placing waste bins in and around the CBD of Bethal, these bins are cleared on a weekly basis.
