Drug dealers and others take over open field in Secunda

Residents want vagrants gone

SECUNDA – Residents living in Maluti Townhouses in Charl Cilliers Street near the Highveld Ridge Primary School in Secunda, are unhappy about the state of the park behind these townhouses, as well as their safety.

“It is dirty, drug dealers are selling drugs here and people are living here in the field and making fires every morning,” said a resident.

According to the residents, a young man was assaulted in this field on Monday, 10 August and the ambulance had to be called.

“We suspect the young man bought drugs from these drug dealers and something went wrong,” said a resident.

Residents want the police and municipality to intervene and do something about the drug dealers and the people making fires. The state of the playground equipment is another sore eye for residents and they want the municipality to maintain and upkeep the state of the park.

The Ridge Times asked the communications department of Govan Mbeki Municipality for comment, but they did not respond at the time of going to print.

The Ridge Times also asked the police for comment and they said they will respond soon.
