Stella brings love to her new family

#AdoptDontShop: "I highly recommend adopting. There are so many animals in need of a good home. Stella came to us when we were at a very emotional time in our lives. She rescued us," ended Ms Engelbrecht.

HIGHVELD – Whether you find them or they find you – adopting a furry, fluffy, feathery or slithery animal should mean for life.

It is their lifetime on this planet with you. It is where they find love and protection, and in return give you their loyalty, obedience and protection.

The Engelbrechts recently added Stella to their family. This was very special, because she had such a sad beginning in life.

Stella and her siblings were found abandoned in a box and were taken in by Because Dogs & Co.

Ms Paskel Engelbrecht came across the adoption post on the organisation’s Facebook page and fell in love with Stella.

“We felt it was time add a new addition to our furry family. We went through all the animal organisations and came across one who had Stella up for adoption,” said Ms Engelbrecht.

They went through the adoption process and welcomed Stella to their family three months ago.

“Stella adapted extremely well to our family. The first week was a bit difficult for her because she needed to get use to her new surroundings, but she eventually adapted and found her favourite sibling, Bubbles the Chihuahua. There is also another small dog and a cat.”

Stella did not like her doggie bed and prefers to sleep on a couch, but she often sneaks into the family bed with the rest of her furry siblings.

“I highly recommend adopting. There are so many animals in need of a good home. Stella came to us when we were at a very emotional time in our lives. She rescued us,” ended Ms Engelbrecht.

Non-profitable organisations such as the SPCA, Because Dogs & Co, Feral Watch and TNR and Little Paws Big Hearts rely on public funding.

However, most fundraising events had been put on hold or cancelled due to Covid-19.

The people who are part of these NPO organisation are volunteers, using their own time and resources for day to day running such as feeding, rescuing making arrangements for animals to have necessary medical attention (such as medical or trauma emergencies, de-worming, neutering or spaying), and finding homes.

“When adopting a pet through Because Dogs & Co you will have to legally apply for your new family addition.

“This entails an adoption application form and a home check and then you may have your new family member.

“The pet will be vaccinated, de-wormed and sterilised and this is all included in your adoption fee,” said Chantel Vorster of Because Dogs & Co.

She said they will soon be adding spa vouchers and free training classes to their package.

Because Dogs & Co have re-homed 400 pets in the past two years and rescuing of puppies and kittens are still streaming in.

They currently have more than 15 dogs and cats up for adoption.
