Carolina Police gears up for 16 Days of Activism campaign

Sgt Mokwana said: “Men were also encouraged to report violence against them, and they were reminded that it is their duty to protect their woman and children.”

The Carolina Community Policing Forum (CPF), Tourist Safety Monitors and Carolina Police held an awareness campaign for 16 Days Activism of Violence Against Women and Children on 25 November in Carolina.

Guest speakers were Carolina Police Station Commander, Lt Col Mnana Mashinini, CPF chairman Dr Mohammed Jina and a gender based violence activist, Ms Nomonde Nkosi.

According to Sgt Thabang Mokwana, spokesman for Carolina Police, woman were encouraged to report any incidents of violence against them to their nearest police stations.

During the speeches woman were advised not to stay in abusive relationships, as they risk of being seriously injured or even killed, exists.

Sgt Mokwana said: “Men were also encouraged to report violence against them and they were reminded that it is their duty to protect woman and children.”

To help with awareness of domestic violence, pamphlets were also handed out to residents in Carolina.
