Perspectives and rights of learners with disabilities promoted in Standerton
Mr Majuba was accompanied by officials from the Department of Social Development, assigned to work with people with disabilities, to offer the required support.
Since the United Nations declared the 3rd of December as the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the MEC for the Department of Education in Mpumalanga, Mr Bonakele Majuba, visited Zikhetheleni Secondary School in Standerton, to meet a Grade 12-learner, Sifiso Magagula.
The event was aimed at promoting and highlighting the perspective and rights of people living with disabilities.
According to the department’s press release of 2 December, Mr Majuba intended to encourage Sifiso and all other learners with disabilities, to continue focusing on furthering their studies and to assure them of their support. Sifiso Magagula wrote two geography papers on the day.
Both his parents passed away and he is currently staying with his grandmother.
Mr Majuba was accompanied by officials from the Department of Education, assigned to work with people with disabilities, to offer the required support.
The provincial Department of Education was encouraged that the visit helped to raise awareness of learners with disabilities.
