SECUNDA – Pastor Lizette Grobbelaar (43) has been the assistant pastor at Cross Generation Secunda Full Gospel Church since 2019.
Past Grobbelaar grew up in eMalahleni (Witbank) and Secunda and married her husband of 25 years, Mr Reinier Grobbelaar, the year after she completed matric.
She is a mother of two boys aged 15 and 21. Past Grobbelaar has been part of the congregation since 2006 and began working as the secretary of the church in 2015.
She initially studied theology as a matter of interest.
“I wanted to learn more about the Bible and more about Jesus, that is why I studied theology,” said Past Grobbelaar.
“I always said I do not want to become a pastor, but God had other plans” she said.
However, when she graduated in 2019, she knew it was then or never.
“I realised I am not getting any younger and if I wanted to go into full-time ministry, the time was now.”
She now has to do her practical time for three years and is about halfway through.
“I think just being a pastor is a challenge, but to be a woman and pastor is an even bigger challenge for me. However I enjoy every moment of it.”
She enjoys preaching to people and helping them and to see how God reveals things to her in the Bible.
“I just want to preach Jesus to the people, my heart is Jesus,” said Past Grobbelaar.
She was a housewife after she finished school and worked at a stationary shop for a few years before she discovered the calling upon her life to become a pastor.
She has always known God, but only formed a deep and intimate relationship with Him in 2010 when she attended a women’s camp in Pretoria.
“There among 300 women I discovered myself and I discovered God.”
She would describe herself as a lukewarm Christian before the women’s camp.
She said the lockdown last year taught many people, including herself, to live a life closer to God.
Her favourite verse in the Bible is Psalm 46:10 where the Lord says: ‘Be still and know I am God.’
Her vision and dreams for the church are that people will find Jesus when they attend church.
“It is not about me or any pastor for that matter, it is all about Jesus.”
The Cross Generation Secunda Full Gospel Church is involved in projects where they give food to the needy during the winter.
Past Grobbelaar hosts a women’s Bible study group every Wednesday at 10am and anybody is welcome to attend it.
She invited the community to also attend church services that kicked off again on Sunday after the lockdown.
The church services begin every Sunday at 10am. The church is situated on the corner of Generaal de Wet Street and Hendrik de Waal Street in Secunda.
