Matrics of 2020 in Standerton receive results

Hoërskool George Hofmeyr and Vrede Skool obtained a 100 per cent pass rate in the 2020-examinations, outsmarting their counterparts for the past 13 and 32 years respectively.

A total of 15 matrics are ready for tertiary education at university and one is ready for a diploma.

Hoërskool George Hofmeyr said goodbye to their principal, Ms Magda Kriel, last year and gave her a fitting farewell present.

“I would like to thank the exemplary staff at the school and Ms Sophia Bohata, circuit manager of Lekwa East, for her cooperation” Ms Kriel said.

In the Lekwa West-circuit, Hoërskool Standerton’s mathematics results showed a pass rate of 98,6 per cent, being included in the Best Club 50 Mathematics 2020-rating in position number 11. Make no mistake, Aabeda Omar and Sandra Zayadi tiptoed in the boxing ring for first position at SHS.

Sandra Zayadi took the number one position with an average of 88,1 per cent, while Aebeda Omar was not knocked cold, ending second with 88,0 per cent.

The young Omar achieved seven distinctions and her fellow-achiever and friend, a total of six.

The Standerton Advertiser took a minute on Tuesday, 23 February to ask Aabeda what her future plans looked like. Not to worry, it could be in the medical or accounting field.

Two other learners also achieved six distinctions namely, Mario Boender and Kristen Nortjé, while Khulani Moloi raked in five distinctions.

A total of six learners achieved four distinctions namely Michelle de Beer, Jason Steynberg, Janice van Wyk, Nomfundo Nkosi, Luhann van Heerden and Aninke Stroebel.

Beyoncé Coetzer looked at a result of three distinctions.

Hoërskool Standerton was a beehive of activity, strictly adhering to Covid-19 regulations, when teachers handed out the certificates and their mascot, Tigero, proudly posed for a number of photographs.

In the Gert Sibande District Municipality, the circuits of Lekwa East tallied up a pass rate of 89,8 per cent claiming the top position, while Lekwa West ended 12th with 70,8 per cent and Volksrust 14th with 70,2 per cent.

Sandra Zayadi took the number one position with an average of 88,1 per cent.

Of the 17 municipalities in Mpumalanga, Lekwa took the number 8 position, with 1 176 out of 1 185 learners writing the examination and a pass rate of 74,8 per cent.

Mpumalanga came in at position 5 on national level with a pass rate of 73,7 per cent, and a total of 53 391 learners writing the year-end-exam.

The MEC for the Department of Education, Mr Bonakele Majuba, conveyed a message.

“These Grade 12 results are a true testimony and a justifiable reflection of the resilience, collaborative effort and high levels of commitment of everyone who supported the 2020 academic year,” Mr Majuba said.

A proud mother ready to jump for joy at the achievement of her her son, Khulani Moloi. Khulani achieved an average of 81,7 per cent.

“Our learners and teachers managed to return to class under extremely difficult circumstances. We must strive to enroll more learners in the gateway subjects, especially mathematics, physical sciences and technology.”
