A new specialist surgeon, Dr Reabetswe Ndaku, is in town and will be working out of Mediclinic Ermelo.
She moved from Bloemfontein to Ermelo in January this year and said the warm hearts and spirit of the community made her feel right at home.
“I always loved Mpumalanga and thought I would retire here, but I am grateful my move here has come much sooner than anticipated,” she said.
Dr Ndaku completed her studies at the University of Free State and obtained her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree in 2011 and her specialist training – as a surgeon, in 2019.
She holds a master’s degree in medicine and surgery, a fellowship in the College of Surgeons and special training as well as a certificate in endoscopic surgery.
In her spare time, she enjoys writing and looks forward to hiking in different parts of Mpumalanga.
Dr Ndaku said staying on her own took some time getting used to as all of her family members live in Bloemfontein.
To her, family is of utmost importance as she and her four siblings were raised in a warm and loving home by their mother.
“My father passed away from cancer when I was four, however, my mother weathered the storm and brought up five well rounded adults,” she said.
She hated what cancer did to her family and therefore, from a young age, always dreamed of being in the medical field to make a difference.
