GSDM helps youth business in eMbalenhle with machinery
We have a high level of youth unemployment and we are under lockdown.
eMBALENHLE – A young women’s laundry business, SPTR Enterprise, received working equipment from the Gert Sibande District Municipality on Wednesday, June 29 in closing of national Youth Month.
Ms Flora Maboa-Boltman, MMC for special programs at the district municipality, said they embarked on helping youth and women-owned businesses within the community with the required machinery they need to conduct their businesses.
“We are creating opportunities and it will depend on how communities handle those opportunities given to them because that is the government’s duty to do so.
“We have a high level of youth unemployment and we are under lockdown. We also need to have food. While we are sitting at home, economic activities must continue, and that is why Gert Sibande District Municipality needs to assist small businesses.”
Ms Maboa-Boltman said this is not the first company to be helped and that some major companies were once also given business starter packs. Ms Maboa-Boltman warned the owners of the company to be united by the equipment that was given.
She said when there are fights about a business’ equipment, it kills small businesses. She also reminded them about respecting each other. They were given washing machines and other required equipment to keep their business running.
The owners promised both the Govan Mbeki Municipality and Gert Sibande District Municipality that they will make sure to employ young people.
