Security guard acts fast to catch shoplifter
“I said to him he was underestimating me because I am a woman.”
One of the smallest women part of the security team at Secunda Mall reacted and caught a thief on Thursday afternoon, July 15.
The thief, who stole two packets of bacon, did not even make it out of the gates of the mall grounds.
Ms Nombuso Khumalo was doing her regular rounds near the Checkers entrance when she heard people from the butchery calling for security.
She saw a man running and chased him while her colleagues in the control room, Ms Noshipho Ngemntu and Ms Constance Mathabela, saw all the action on the cameras and called for backup.
Ms Khumalo and car guards chased the thief all the way to the taxi rank gate, still inside the mall premises, where he jumped over the gate, hurt his foot and fell down.
“I asked him why he was stealing on my beat, as he saw me standing there; he said he was hungry,” said Ms Khumalo.
“I said to him he was underestimating me because I am a woman.”
