Mom identifies girl who died in shack fire in eMbalenhle

“I am relieved that I found her, although she is dead,” cried Ms Dlhongololo.

Nthabiseng Mofokeng (16) was identified as the girl who died along with Mr Moeketsi Malope in a shack fire on June 26.

The shack burnt down at Ext 19, eMbalenhle.

Her family identified her at the state mortuary last week.

Ms Lizzy Dhlongololo, Ntabiseng’s mother, said her child used to visit her friends at eMbalenhle every Friday and return to her family home at Val on Sunday.

Ms Dhlongololo was worried when her daughter had not returned back home on June 28.

“I went to Val Police Station to report her as a missing person. Her father (Mr Sipho Mofokeng) and I began to look for her at her friends on nearby farms, but she was nowhere to be found.”

Nthabiseng’s mother also looked for her at Roodebank Farm near Mbalenhle.

“While I was showing her photo to people, one guy said he had read in Ridge Times of a couple who died on shack fire at eMbalenhle and that the woman had not been identified. “

I immediately rushed to the eMbalenhle Police Station and explained to them that I am looking for my missing daughter and wanted to see if she was the one who died in the shack,” said Ms Dhlongololo.

The police too her to the mortuary at Evander and she was able to identify Nthabiseng’s body, even though she was burned beyond recognition.

Ms Dhlongololo asked police to take her to the place of incident and she was warmly welcomed by Mr Malope’s grieving family.

“I am relieved that I found her, although she is dead,” cried Ms Dlhongololo.

Ms Dhlongololo said they are preparing to lay Ntabiseng’s body to rest at Holmdene Farm in the Standerton District.

She was a Grade 9-learner at Holmdene Secondary School on a farm in the area.
