Govan Mbeki Municipality’s mayor unveils bakkies for law-enforcement

“We know that this is not yet enough and we still need more by-law enforcement equipment. ”

Mr Nhlakanipho Zuma, executive mayor of Govan Mbeki Municipality, his mayoral committee and councillors unveiled a new crane truck and two law enforcement bakkies at the Secunda Fire Station on Monday, July 19.

Mr Zuma said while unveiling these additions to the municipal fleet, that the vehicles will be used for service delivery.

He said delivering electricity is not happening at a fast enough rate because the municipality spends a lot of money on hiring equipment. This has affected the municipality’s finances and GMM lost a lot of money by hiring machinery.

“The council decided to reduce the contracted services to enhance the quality of services that we provide. The crane truck that we are unveiling will be used for electrical purposes such as installing transformers and when fitting heavy equipment.

“This is the kind of equipment that the community of GMM procured using their own money and we hope they will also take care of their property,” said Mr Zuma.

He said the bakkies are fitted with security features and will be used in the enforcement of by-laws. We know that this is not yet enough and we still need more by-law enforcement equipment, ” said Mr Zuma.
