The SACP in Lekwa’s sub-district strongly condemned poor construction in developmental projects and poor working conditions for employees.
Ms Mapaseka Molaba issued a statement in this regard, saying workers are paid low wages and in some instances, not paid at all.
“It is sad to see the perpetuation of the status quo at Rooikoppen where developmental projects benefit the few elite, who are politically connected,” the statement read.
This former councillor also said these tendencies result in exploitation of people.
Ms Molaba alleged that a few individuals, connected to ANC-leaders, benefit from those projects.
“The majority of the people at Rooikoppen are poor and most of them go to bed without food,” she added.
“Small kids are involved in drugs, substance abuse and crime.
“Children at school depend on feeding schemes.”
Ms Molaba is of the opinion that these social ills are caused by capitalist neo-liberal policies.
According to her, a parasitic bourgeoisie that is going to become war lords, is emerging.
Mention was made of people using political connections to get tenders.
“We must fight them to the end.
“We strongly believe that politicians must leave tenders to business people and run a clean and accountable government.
“We cannot have leaders who benefit at the expense of the working class and the poor.”
Ms Molaba concluded by saying the working class struggle must continue.
