AfriForum and MB&CF question Msukaligwa Municipality’s compliance as per electrical licence
In the notice, Mr Bronwen Pretorius, the district coordinator of AfriForum, requested the municipality to provide them with information regarding the municipality’s compliance, or to alternatively restore all services.
ERMELO – AfriForum and Msukaligwa Business and Community Forum have joined hands to address the electricity issues residents regularly experience.
They served the Msukaligwa Local Municipality a notice in which they questioned its compliance relating to their electrical licence.
The notice stated the municipality failed and neglected to adhere to the powers and duties as stated in the licence.
In the notice, Mr Bronwen Pretorius, the district coordinator of AfriForum, requested the municipality to provide them with information regarding the municipality’s compliance, or to alternatively restore all services.
“If the municipality does not take the necessary steps to address the problems, AfriForum will not hesitate to declare a dispute with Nersa. We cannot allow the community to suffer under the poor management of the municipality, ”said Mr Corné Cronjé, AfriForum’s manager of community affairs.
It also addresses the municipality’s alleged lack of maintenance of the electrical infrastructure in Ermelo.
The municipality has been given seven days to respond to the notice.
This follows after frequent power outages that put the local economy under significant pressure.
Highvelder sent enquiries to Msukaligwa Local Municipality regarding the notice, and awaits its response.
