Secunda Police warn public of theft of gate motors

The gate motors are being stolen, not to gain easy access to the property for housebreaking, but are being stolen to be sold and then resold.

Police are warning the public of a syndicate going around targeting homes where there are electronic gates and stealing of gate motors.

About four cases are being reported a week of theft of gate motors.

The gate motors are being stolen, not to gain easy access to the property for housebreaking, but are being stolen to be sold and then resold.

“Please mark your gate motors, not just on one place but as many places as possible, by methods of engraving,” said Capt Marita Wright.

She said marking gate motors will be easier for owners to identify if police can recover the stolen property.

Marking with spray paint or markers will not work as this can easily be removed.

Homeowners also need to make sure that gate motors are properly bracketed and padlocked, making it harder for criminals to remove them.

“Wright down the serial numbers of your gate motors and all of your other property that has serial numbers. Make sure all your property is also clearly marked.

“It just makes it easier to identify when the property is recovered,” concluded Capt Wright.
