Public prosecutor must decide in which court murder trial will be heard

Another taxi boss suspected of being involved in the crime, allegedly killed himself before the police could arrest him on Thursday night, January 20.

The public prosecutor must now decide if the murder case against Elias Mhlanga and Vuyisile Buthelezi will be tried in the Regional Court or the High Court.

They again appeared in the Evander Regional Court on Monday, March 7, in connection with the murder of Kinross taxi boss, Fannie Khumalo (51) who was shot dead at his home in Kinross in November last year.

Khumalo, a member of the Vukanini Taxi Association (Vukta), was preparing his minibus taxis for the road when four men shot him seven times in the chest.

Mhlanga (52) and Buthelezi (37) were arrested last year December and were charged with murder.

The court denied bail to Mhlanga (52), while Buthelezi (37), refused to apply for bail when they appeared before the court on Monday, January 10.

Another taxi boss suspected of being involved in the crime, allegedly killed himself before the police could arrest him on Thursday night, January 20.

According to a reliable source, the police traced the man to a house in Villiers where they barged into the house and found that he had shot himself.

He was declared dead on the scene.

The case against Mhlanga and Buthelezi was postponed to Monday, April 11, and they are remanded in custody.
