The Provincial Commissioner of Police, Lieut-Gen Semakaleng Daphney Manamela, applauded members from Standerton Crime Intelligence, Standerton Dog Unit and Standerton Police Station for making inroads in the fight against drugs.
According to a statement dated May 25, a suspect (36) was arrested in connection with dealing in drugs.
Information was received on May 24 at about 15:00 about a man allegedly dealing in drugs at Ext 6, Standerton.
Police followed up, conducted a search and the suspect was found in possession of 78 sachets of suspected nyaope, as well as three bags of dagga.
According to the statement, the weight of the dagga was 1782g, with an estimated street value of about R5 200.
The suspect was apprehended and charged with dealing in dagga.
He was expected to appear in Standerton Magistrate’s Court on May 25.
Lieut-Gen Manamela has challenged members of the community not to stop with providing police with information about drug peddlers.
She said police will ensure that such perpetrators are brought to book, like in this instance and take control of the streets from the hands of criminals.
“What we need from our communities is to bring forth information about crime, then we will act accordingly without fear or favour,” she emphasised.
