Case of man who allegedly murdered a former police officer is postponed

The accused allegedly confessed to the killing and burying of the victim’s body in a shallow grave.

The case in the Regional Court, Standerton of the murdered former police officer, Jochim Johannes (Brakkies) Engelbrecht, has again been postponed.

Sanele Fahyana Msimanga (27), the murder suspect, is behind bars.

According to information, Msimanga was previously remanded on bail.

The accused did not appear in court on May 17 to face the charge and a warrant for his arrest was subsequently issued.

He handed himself over to police the same day, which has happened before.

Engelbrecht was reported missing in 2020 and police launched a search, culminating in Msimanga handing himself over to the Harrismith Police on March 12 last year.

The accused allegedly confessed to the killing and burying of the victim’s body in a shallow grave.

The remains were exhumed, taken for forensic tests and the human bones went reportedly missing at one stage.

Msimanga’s next court date is scheduled for June 13.
