Highveld Ridge Primary School in Secunda awards top learners
A banner with the wording “Don’t just look at the stars, be one” could not have been more fitting for learners who excelled in this year’s academics and sport.
With another academic year soon coming to a close, Highveld Ridge Primary School awarded top learners in both the junior and senior phases on Tuesday, November 8 and Wednesday, November 9.
The senior awards were also the announcement of 2023’s student council and head boy and head girls.
Principal Marinus Strydom thanked special guests in attendance and parents for the support they had shown towards their children and school throughout the year. Pastor Greg Odell of Church25 opened in prayer.

“Your child is a star. You should and must be extremely proud of them. Your child is the star in your life. They give you light,” said Strydom when speaking to parents.

He said that being proud of one’s child is something to brag about. This has been a year of success for HRPS since the Covid-19 pandemic.
“The past two and a half years have been extremely difficult in terms of education,” explained Strydom about adapting to attending classes from home and transitioning back into school during a pandemic.
With sporting and extramural activities cancelled during that time, it allowed teachers and learners to focus more on academics.
HRPS is back with extra mural activities, fun days and more interaction among learners.
HRPS has also been reaching out to their community with three areas of support being shown to Church25, the elderly from Davies Court across the road from the school and Marietjie School.
Special awards were given to Ricky Mtsweni, Sara Nkosi and educator Fiona MacGregor who served 30 years and longer.
