Driving a sedan on potholed roads in Standerton is no mean feat

It is not the first time home-owners decide to do something about the road conditions.

A quick survey of the number and size of potholes in some parts of the residential area, proved that rain worsens the driving experience.

The Standerton Advertiser began the journey on Monday, November 14 at the intersection of Caledon Street and Handel Street.

Turning back in Caledon Street towards Mbonani Mayisela Street, the intersection was riddled with potholes.

Lekwa Clean Up Crew took matters in their own hands on Wednesday, November 16 and were repairing some of the damaged surface.

Schwickard Street and Coligny Street have competition as Berg Street remains a thorn in the flesh.

Workers were spotted tarring the surface in front of a few houses on Monday and when questioned, they said the owner is footing the bill.

It is not the first time homeowners decide to do something about the road conditions. Residents in Paarl Street also repaired some of the potholes.

Up towards Florapark in Beyers Naudé Street, crossing Baumann Street, the turn-off to Laerskool Jeugkrag proved tricky.

At this stage, motorists can only access it by turning the wheel in a western direction, hoping no vehicle is coming from that side.

Delani Louis Thabethe, executive mayor of the Lekwa Municipality, admitted to the crumbling infrastructure in May this year.

The mayor did not beat about the bush about road conditions, calling it very bad.

“It is not easy to maneauvre and Lekwa will attend to it in phases.”

According to him, roads had already been identified where repair work will be done, whether patching of potholes or complete upgrading.

The busy R50 towards Leandra past Early Bird and Nelson Mandela Drive in Meyerville have not come into the equation.
