Organisation in Leandra needs food for festive parcels

Woman is part of actress, Hanna Grobler's charity organisation.

LEANDRA – With the upcoming festive season, Debbie Smith, a Leandra resident, wants to lighten up the world of needy families in the area.

“The need is great and people are battling to put food on the table,” said Smith, who has been doing outreach work in her community for many years.

She joined the well-known South African actress, Hanna Grobler’s charity organisation, Hanna Charity and Empowerment Foundation, about three years ago to help more people.

Smith does not believe in disabling people to provide for themselves and thus only gives them a food parcel to carry them until the end of the month.

However, she is being swamped with phone calls and requests from families in need.

She is now reaching out to the community and businesses in Secunda and surrounding areas to support her by donating much-needed food.

Smith usually makes up parcels consisting of basic needs such as flour, oil, coffee, tea, sugar, porridge for children for breakfast, toiletries and stationery for the new school year.

Anyone who wants to support this project and donate any of the items or money can contact Smith at 083 253 7456.

Residents can also visit Smith’s second-hand shop in Leandra to buy something at low prices or donate any goods they do not use anymore.
