Isiphephelo hosts Men for Change Awareness Campaign in eMbalenhle

The campaign included a soccer tournament between the local teams and eMbalenhle Police to strengthen the relationship between the police and the community.

Isiphephelo Multi-purpose Centre in eMbalenhle held the Men for Change Awareness Campaign on Saturday, December 3, in a fight against gender-based violence.

Many stakeholders of the centre gathered next to the Ext 19 clinic where all services are rendered, including HIV Aids testing and counselling, and counselling on how to fight alcohol and drug abuse and GBV.

The campaign included a soccer tournament between the local teams and the eMbalenhle Police to strengthen the relationship between the police and the community.

The centre renders TB screening to residents at their homes and HIV-positive patients. It also conducts TB workshops for caregivers and traditional leaders and provides daily meals for orphans and needy children.

Ntombikayise Masala, the centre’s managing director, said they involved the police in their programme because the police are part of society and should not be neglected.

“Police members are also humans and are working under severe pressure. Most of the time we only invite them to provide safety when we have activities and we forget that they also have family issues like anyone else.

“Men are afraid to go to the clinic and it is our role to visit them where ever they are,” said Masala.

Masala said they want to spread their programmes throughout the Govan Mbeki municipal area.
