Cricket club in Secunda acknowledges top players

The Sasol Secunda Cricket Club awarded their top players at a recent ceremony.

The Sasol Secunda Cricket Club awarded their players in the men’s and women’s teams for their outstanding performances in the 2022/23 cricket season at a ceremony on August 26 at Ukhozi Lodge.

Nicus Boshoff took the men’s player of the year, players’ player of the year and T20 player of the year awards.
Pieter Vrolijk was awarded Premier League batter, and Ignus Koekemoer Premier bowler of the year.

The T20 batter of the year went to George Louw, with Vernon Fourie taking the T20 bowler award. Xander Muller (U13) took junior player of the year.

Elaine Herbst earned the women’s player of the year award and the women’s bowler of the year. The women’s batter of the year award went to Bianca Brummer.

The captain’s awards went to Colin van Staden, captain of Sasol 1 Secunda, as the winner of Gert Sibande and the Mpumalanga T20 league.



Also awarded was George Louw, captain of Sasol 1 Secunda, as the winner of the Gert Sibande Premier League 50 overs.

He retained the Neil Parsons floating trophy for the sixth year in a row and seventh time in eight attempts.

In a new tradition, the following players received honour caps for 100 club matches: Koekemoer, Douglas Richardson, Diaan du Plooy, Vernon Fourie, Dylan Niemand and Michael Hobkirk.

In other news, the club had its AGM on August 23 and elected these people for the following positions:
Koekemoer – chairperson; Michael Hobkrik – treasurer; Werner Müller – club captain; Vernon Fourie – secretary; Nicus Boshoff – additional member, and Colin van Staden – development.

The Sasol M-Tool 6-a-side tournament is on September 30.
